I'm surprised that no one has posted here yet!  While I like most of the Disney works, I'm also into Don Bluth's style.  He does amusing designs, but characters you can care about at the same time.  Not easy.  I know that a lot of folks didn't like Titan A.E., but I thought it was a brilliant combination of cel and CG elements.  One of my faves!

Don Bluth is my favorite animator! I love every one of his movies (except Rock-a-doodle)! He is almost my hero!

I'm not exactly a expert on this topic like some of you.

But I know what I like.

Certain Disney efforts are really my preferences, some are certainly better than others.

Yeah, he's ok, but (this may sound corny so stfu) I like Akira Toriyama. That's final for me...sort of...

Favorite animator? I had the name but I JUST forgot it!! GRR!! Maybe someone can jog my memory. He did alot of the like early to mid 50s Looney Tunes, did he do Looney Tunes?. He seemed most famous for his big busted women. Was it Tex Avery? I think it was. Anywho, he's who I like.

Avery was a comic genius.  He did a lot of stuff for Hanna-Barbera and MGM, like Droopy and Tom & Jerry shorts.  My absolute FAVORITE from him is "Quiet Please", where most of the short is silent, and the characters pantomime everything for half the show.  GREAT!  He was crazy, but he knew what was funny. images/icones/icon13.gif

I realize it's not animation, but I had to mention this movie, since this thread's about inspiration.  We went to see "One Night with the King".        Man, what a delight!  Very well made, technically and aesthetically, and it made me want to do this Illiad project all the more.  Please try to see it if you get the chance!

AMC (Southroads 20 here), yes, independent, and it's all those things.  ;)

Saw some more inspiration on a cool program shown on public TV called "Classic Arts Showcase".  It was an animated version of Wagner's opera, "Das Rheingold".  The animation was nice, it looked like it was made in the '40s or '50s.  The setting was very mythical, like our picture, and it would be worthwhile for us to look at.  It made me appreciate something else in light of our project--I think perhaps lip-sync is more challenging when your characters are singing, since their mouths are open so much more.    Anyway, it was a very good film; I found it very inspirational.  If you want to rent it, it's part of a compilation called "Operavox" (1994).  Sorry, it wasn't on YouTube...

O.K., now while it's true that this isn't an animated movie, I think it would be a good idea, considering our subject matter, for anyone on the project who needs some inspiration or insight to take some time and check out "300", the big-screen treatment of Frank Miller's account of the Battle of Thermopylae.  EXTREMELY violent, but the visuals are worth the admission by themselves.

Caught more inspiration over this weekend--I realize most of you are probably not into anime, but I think "Paprika" may be my favorite movie so far this year--high imagination brought to the screen brilliantly, and a pretty good story as well!  Nice work from Satoshi-san...

I'm glad you guys like 300. I also felt motivated even more to do the project by watching it. I even bought it on DVD, the special edition one of course! I think we should do our movie on a rating around PG-13, I know we were first trying to do a PG but as Lex said we are not Disney and far from it. So I think it would be a good idea to make PG-13. Of course I don't want it to be bloody and violent as 300 is(Everett is right, it is extremely violent!). But we may have some nice sword fight that may show off some blood. Well that is my opinion but I hope Lex will take it into consideration...
