Just got back from "Everyone's Hero".  The story was pedestrian, but that movie has style and heart!  A nice little tribute to the late Reeves.

They used realistic rendering (freckles and pores and all), but the characters still had, well, character.  I admire them for pulling that off.  It's a good idea for animators to see it at least once.

Anyone have any other movies worth a study?

Do the secondary characters (the ball and bat) get annoying as the seem they would on the commercials?

As I said on the blog, I enjoyed Monster House alot. I also recommend the now classic Toy Story movies, of course.

Yeah, Monster House was a good time.  Nice art and detail in that.

Actually, the ball and bat (Screwie and Darlin' by name) were real entertaining.   Of course, I like Rob Reiner and Whoopi Goldberg as humorists, so I may be biased.  :/

I can appreciate that--it was real stylized.  I actually preferred "The Polar Express".  Maybe this production team plans to do a movie for each holiday?

Hi, I'm new here. Everett told me about this forum ( we work together.) I'm a fan of animation, all kinds, but there will never be animation like the animation I remember as a kid. There was something about it, grainy, maybe, a little homemade, who knows, but I loved it. Although, animation has come a very long way, but I still like animation of "yesteryear". ( How many times can I say "animation"?) Hmm, one more, animation.

Just saw an ad for "Happily N'ever After"--I'm curious to see it.  They say that it shares a producer from the "Shrek" films (how appropriate), but I didn't see any names I recognize.  One of the companies behind the animation is BAF (Berlin Animation Film), who, shockingly enough, did a TV series about the Odyssey.  (Hardly any similarity to our project, so no worries.)

I have also seen a trailer for Happily N'ever After but the problem I have with Dreamworks is that since Shrek, all you feel they are able to do is making fun of fairy tales. Ok, it's a great concept but now, it seems overused.

It's a film about a villainess' plan to take over fairy tale land.  It caught my attention because the plot centers around the villains, which I thought was a different approach.  BTW, Dreamworks has nothing to do with this one; it's a joint production of BAF, BFC (Berliner Film Companies), and Vanguard Animation (the guys behind Disney's "Valiant").  They have Lion's Gate Films as a distributor.

My position on the whole fractured fairy tale movement is, well, Disney and others have paid reverent homage to the fairy tales for the past 50 years, I think it's high-time for a little irreverence!

Hey, btw, I've just seen Monster House, it was great. I like the story and the animation looked very good with very well stylized characters.

Ah, I'm glad you mentioned it again, because that reminded me of one technical problem I had with  "The Polar Express" that "Monster House" didn't have.  They had kids play the kids and adults play the adults--good move.  Some of the movements of the kids in "Polar" looked a little too...sophisticated, if you know what I mean.  Still enjoy both movies, though!  Try to catch "Jane and the Dragon" on TV for more motion-capture fun.
